Visit to Filey Probus Wednesday 16th October.
Chairman Jim and seven members visited Filey Probus Club to hear a talk on ‘Flamborough Light Railway’. We were all well received and listened to John Walker, a local historian reveal a fascinating story illustrated by photographs and slides.
In case you don’t remember the railway, we were told it was because it was never completed. Vast areas of the town had demolition and road widening schemes in order to make way for the Railway. It was to connect Flamborough, and it’s Fish Landings, with the centre of the town, the harbour, and the Old Spa Royal Hall. Areas of the town including Promenade, Cross Street, Prince Street, St John Street, and around the Bayle were affected.
Sadly we were told that the ambitious scheme failed. Let us all hope the present Regeneration Scheme has a better outcome.
Thanks to David Dunk who did the liaison and Ron Major who took the attached photograph of our group.
